Writing Black Women’s Political Leadership
3 days of events with Dr. Carole Boyce Davies in Athens, Greece
The United African Women Organization – Greece (UAWO) and the European Network of People of African Decent (ENPAD) invite you to three days of events in Athens, Greece with Dr. Carole Boyce Davies over the course of October 11, 12 and 13, 2019. The events centered on the theme of “Sisterhood and Struggle: Writing Black Women’s Political Leadership” mark the first visit of Dr. Carole Boyce Davies to Athens, Greece.
Esteemed scholar of Africana Studies and English at Cornell University (Ithaca, New York), and author of prize-winning books such as Left of Karl Marx: The Political Activism of Claudia Jones, Dr. Boyce Davies will be presenting a historical examination of Writing Black Women’s Political Leadership, centering the historical struggles and causes of erasure of Black Women’s activism legacies, posing pressing questions leading to action in the present.
The events take place in the context of UAWO’ s ongoing study of Black and Afrofeminist traditions.
A continuation of UAWO’s 1st Black Feminist Skillsharing Workshop, which took place in Athens over the course of five weeks in 2018, the initiative aims to address issues concerning the politics of space, and function as a platform to access knowledge and histories of political struggle often unacknowledged in many activist spaces in Greece and elsewhere. The event series includes workshops, womxn’s circles, reading groups and public talks.
The upcoming events also mark the first visit of ENPAD to Greece. ENPAD’S annual meeting will be taking place over the weekend, with members gathering from over 15 countries in Europe.
On Friday October 11, 6pm Dr. Carole Boyce Davies will give a public lecture titled Half the World and African Women’s Rights which will take place at the Antoniadou Amphitheater (Amfitheatro Antoniadou) at ASOEE, Athens University of Economics and Business (Patission 76).
On Saturday October 12 a more intimate workshop will take place inviting womxn of all backgrounds to discuss current problems and ways of self organization.
A reading circle will also take place reflecting through the work of Professor Boyce Davies.

The events will be taking place in the Kypseli area, known over the past decades for its African and immigrant Community, which has been undergoing intense gentrification with AirBNB and real estate development, putting at risk communities living in the area.

Τριήμερο εκδηλώσεων με τη Δρ. Carole Boyce Davies στην Αθήνα
Η Οργάνωση Ενωμένων Γυναικών Αφρικής (ΟΕΓΑ) και το Ευρωπαϊκό Δίκτυο Ανθρώπων Αφρικανικής Καταγωγής (ENPAD) σας προσκαλούν σε ένα τριήμερο εκδηλώσεων στην Αθήνα με τη Δρ. Carole Boyce Davies στις 11, 12 και 13 Οκτώβρη 2019 με τίτλο “Sisterhood και Αγώνας: Γράφοντας για τις Μαύρες Γυναίκες στην Πολιτική Ηγεσία”. Οι εκδηλώσεις σηματοδοτούν την πρώτη επίσκεψη της Δρ. Carole Boyce Davies στην Αθήνα.Διακεκριμένη ακαδημαϊκός και καθηγήτρια Αφρικανικών Σπουδών και Αγγλικών στο Πανεπιστήμιο του Cornell (Ithaca, Νέα Υόρκη) και συγγραφέας βραβευμένων βιβλίων όπως το Αριστερά του Καρλ Μαρξ: Η Πολιτική Ζωή της Μαύρης Κουμμουνίστριας Claudia Jones (2007), η Δρ. Boyce Davies θα παρουσιάσει μία ιστορική επισκόπηση πάνω στη συγγραφή για την πολιτική ηγεσία των μαύρων γυναικών, με κέντρο τους ιστορικούς αγώνες και τις αιτίες διαγραφής των κληρονομιών ακτιβισμού των μαύρων γυναικών, θέτοντας σημαντικά ζητήματα που οδηγούν στη δράση στο σήμερα.
Οι εκδηλώσεις θα λάβουν χώρα στα πλαίσια της εν εξελίξει μελέτης των Μαύρων και Αφροφεμινιστικών παραδόσεων από την ΟΕΓΑ. Ως συνέχεια του Εργαστηρίου Μαύρου Φεμινισμού και Μοιράσματος Γνώσης, το οποίο έλαβε χώρα στην Αθήνα σε διάρκεια πέντε εβδομάδων το 2018, η πρωτοβουλία έχει ως σκοπό να θέσει ζητήματα που αφορούν την πολιτική του χώρου, καθώς και να λειτουργήσει ως πλατφόρμα για την πρόσβαση στη γνώση και τις ιστορίες πολιτικών αγώνων που συχνά δεν αναγνωρίζονται από πολλούς χώρους ακτιβισμού στην Ελλάδα και αλλού. Η σειρά των εκδηλώσεων περιλαμβάνει εργαστήρια, κύκλους γυναικών, ομάδες ανάγνωσης και δημόσιες ομιλίες.
Οι δράσεις του Οκτώβρη 2019 επίσης σηματοδοτούν την πρώτη επίσκεψη του ENPAD στην Ελλάδα. Η ετήσια συνάντηση του Ευρωπαϊκού Δικτύου Ανθρώπων Αφρικανικής Καταγωγής θα λάβει χώρα το σαββατοκύριακο εκείνο με μέλη που κατοικούν σε παραπάνω από 15 ευρωπαϊκές χώρες.
Την Παρασκευή 11 Οκτώβρη, στις 6 μμ., η Δρ. Carole Boyce Davies θα δώσει μια δημόσια διάλεξη με τίτλο Ο Μισός Κόσμος και τα Δικαιώματα των Αφρικανών Γυναικών. Η διάλεξη θα λάβει χώρα στο Αμφιθέατρο Αντωνιάδου στην ΑΣΟΕΕ, το Οικονομικό Πανεπιστήμιο Αθηνών (Πατησίων 76).
Το Σάββατο 12 Οκτώβρη θα λάβει χώρα ένα εργαστήριο σε πιο στενό κύκλο όπου προσκαλούνται γυναίκες* με διαφορετικές εμπειρίες για να συζητήσουν τρέχοντα προβλήματα καθώς και τρόπους αυτοοργάνωσης.
Ένας κύκλος ανάγνωσης θα λάβει επίσης χώρα με σκοπό την ανασκόπηση μέσα από τη δουλειά της καθηγήτριας Boyce Davies.

Οι δράσεις θα λάβουν χώρα στην περιοχή της Κυψέλης, που τις τελευταίες δεκαετίες είναι γνωστή ως κατοικία της αφρικανικής και της μεταναστευτικής κοινότητας εν γένει, και έχει υποστεί έντονο εξευγενισμό με την ανάπτυξη του AirBNB και την εκμετάλλευση ακινήτων, βάζοντας κοινότητες που ζουν εκεί σε ρίσκο.

Ecrire sur le leadership politique des femmes Noires
3 jours avec Dr. Carole Boyce Davies du 11 au 13 octobre 2019
L’Organisation des Femmes Africaines Unies – Grèce (UAWO) et le Réseau Européen des Personnes d´Ascendance Africaine (ENPAD) vous invitent à trois jours d’activités à Athènes, en Grèce, avec Dr. Carole Boyce Davies, les 11, 12 et 13 octobre 2019. Cet évènement marque la première visite de Prof. Carole Boyce Davies à Athènes.
Chercheuse très respectée en littérature anglaise et en études africaines à l´Université de Cornell (Ithaca, New York) et auteur d’ouvrages tels que Left of Karl Marx: The Political Life of Claudia Jones (2007). Là Dr. Boyce Davies examinera de manière historique comment Ecrire sur le leadership politique des femmes Noires centré sur les luttes historiques et les causes de l´oubli des legs de l’activisme des femmes Noires, posant des questions d’actualité pressantes menant à l’action dans le présent.
Les activités se déroulent dans le contexte de l’étude en cours par UAWO des traditions Noire et Afroféministes.
À la suite du premier atelier de cinq semaines sur le partage des compétences chez les féministes noires organisé par l’UAWO à Athènes en 2018, cette initiative vise à aborder les problèmes liés à la politique de l’espace et constitue souvent une plate-forme permettant d’accéder à la connaissance et aux histoires de luttes politiques non reconnues dans de nombreux espaces activistes en Grèce et ailleurs. La série d’événements comprend des ateliers, des cercles de femmes, des groupes de lecture et des conférences publiques.
Les événements marquent également la première visite d’ENPAD en Grèce. La réunion annuelle du Réseau Européen des Personnes d’Ascendance Africaine se tiendra pendant le week-end avec leurs bases dans plus de 15 pays d’Europe.
Le Vendredi 11 Octobre à 18 heures, Dr. Carole Boyce Davies donnera la conférence publique La moitié du monde et les droits des femmes africaines, qui se déroulera à l’amphithéâtre Antoniadou (Amfitheatro Antoniadou) de l’Université Economique et de commerce d’Athènes (ASOEE), (Patission 76).
Le Samedi 12 Octobre, un atelier intime pour les femmes de toutes origines aura lieu oú les défis actuels et les techniques d´organisation seront explorées.

Le Dimanche 13 Octobre, un brunch africain potluck aura lieu de 12h à 17h.
Les événements se dérouleront dans le quartier Kypseli, très connu au cours des dernières décennies pour sa présence de communauté africaine et migrante qui a subi une processus de gentrification avec AirBNB et le développement immobilier, mettant en danger les communautés habitantes de la région.
